What is Visceral Manipulation?
“Visceral” refers to the internal organs. Visceral Manipulation focuses on the organs and their relationships with the structures around them. I also use the term visceral mobilization in my teaching.
I incorporate this work into sessions alongside Zero Balancing and Craniosacral Therapy. A session may involve different areas of the body, depending on the person.
What happens in a session?
We begin by talking about what brings you in. You remain clothed while I work with gentle pressure and movement. I draw on the approaches that make up my practice, including Craniosacral Therapy, Zero Balancing and Visceral Manipulation.
You can ask questions or ask me to adjust or pause the work at any time. At the end, we can discuss what you noticed and whether to schedule another appointment.
My experience with visceral work
I have maintained a private bodywork practice since 1976. I developed Spirit of the Organs for the Zero Balancing Health Association, bringing anatomy and Zero Balancing principles together in the study of visceral work.
I also wrote Zero Balancing Expanded: The Attitude of Awaiting a Fish. My private practice, teaching and writing all draw on this continuing study of the body.
More about my backgroundFrequently asked questions
Is visceral work part of a regular appointment?
Yes. I include visceral work in individual bodywork sessions. Choose an Introductory Session for your first visit, and tell me about your interest when we meet.
Does the work focus only on the abdomen?
Visceral work concerns the organs and their surrounding structures. I combine it with other forms of bodywork, so a session may include areas beyond the abdomen.
What should I wear?
You remain clothed during the session. Wear something comfortable.
How often should I come?
That depends on the person. We can discuss further appointments after your first session; you do not need to book a series.
What if I have a medical condition or recent surgery?
Check with your healthcare professional about whether bodywork is appropriate, and speak with me before booking. Bodywork does not replace medical assessment or treatment.
Bodywork is complementary to medical care. It does not provide a medical diagnosis or replace treatment from your healthcare professional.
